Polyimide Tape Thickness and Width Guide
“Mil” means one thousandth of an inch. For the standard single sided tapes below, the product's 1, 2, 5, or 10 mil label refers to the polyimide film backing. Total tape thickness includes the adhesive layer.
Standard single sided tape
| Film backing | Total tape thickness | Roll length | Shop silicone | Shop acrylic |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 mil | 2.5 mil | 36 yards | 1 mil silicone | 1 mil acrylic |
| 2 mil | 3.5 mil | 36 yards | 2 mil silicone | 2 mil acrylic |
| 5 mil | 6.5 mil | 36 yards | 5 mil silicone | 5 mil acrylic |
| 10 mil | 11.5 mil | 15 yards | 10 mil silicone | 10 mil acrylic |
Compare the backing and total thickness with your clearance and handling needs. The 10 mil roll is shorter than the other standard rolls, so check length as well as unit price when comparing products.
Specialty constructions
The anti-static and black products list their available backing thicknesses on each product page. Double sided tape has adhesive on both sides: the 1 mil film version is 4 mil total, and the 2 mil film version is 5 mil total. See the double sided listings for the available options.
Choose a width
Standard single sided tapes offer widths from 1/8 in to 3 in. The Anti-static, black, and double sided listings begin at 1/4 in and also extend to 3 in; check each product's width selector for its exact options and availability. Choose a width that covers the area your process needs without obstructing adjacent parts.
